Summer Recap: W ow! Summer is already over so fast. The Walkers had a blast with all of the planned activities and events. We had fun learning about each theme through crafts, songs, and in-house field trips. We learned about underwater creatures and how fish can live in seaweed to protect themselves. We also talked about the variety of whales we can see in the ocean and created marble art whales with paint and marbles. We looked at pictures of fish to gain a better understanding of their shapes and sizes. Then, we learned about jellyfish and made them out of paper bowls, paint, and streamers. Learning about the ocean was awesome! The Walkers also enjoyed learning about outer space. We know there is a lot to learn about space! We got to look at the planets and say their names. Our class now knows that planets are millions of light years away! The Walkers we’re excited to make handprint aliens traveling in their UFOs. So cute! The class had a blast creating their own universe by gluing planets and stars to a cutout paper plate. We even got to watch Magic Joe and his tricks he had up his sleeve. There’s always a little magic in outer space! Our class discussed the farm and all that it entails. Of course, we had to sing Old McDonald and placed the animals inside our barn as we sang! The Walkers loved filling our barn on the wall with cotton ball sheep, colored flying pigs, and Q-Tip painted crops. Our students also loved playing in our “vegetable garden” in the sensory table. We had fun “watering the crops” and “digging in the dirt”! We got to see Ranger Joe and he was so cool! Spirit week was so much fun! We were able to come to school with crazy hair! We had colors in our hair and we put gel and ponytails in it. We had fun as a class dressing ourselves in sports wear and of course our Montessori spirit shirts we love to wear. The Walkers enjoyed making their own decorated basketball and also our own class banner. On Friday, we got to wear our pajamas to school! This was a great theme! Last, but certainly not least, there was Fitness week! We focused on great nutrition and doing fun activities that made our bodies move. We had our version of a Zumba class and danced until we dropped! We relaxed and breathed through a yoga class made just for us. We even got to eat a fun, healthy snack called Ants on a Log. We also had fun during Montessori time learning all about number concepts, helping ourselves, and sensory concepts. Our students were taught how to sort colored feathers, count froggies, and how to wipe our own face. The class was very involved in putting their own sunscreen on their arms and legs. They love to do things on their own Enrichments for this month were based on sign language and music. We practiced learning new sign words like Water, Mommy, and Hello. We also loved learning new songs like Baby Beluga and practicing our knowledge of rhythms and tempo. The Walkers even found out that whales have their own songs! In the end, Summer was fun filled with lots of activities based around our lovely themes. We had so much fun learning about amazing creatures and animals. We researched fitness and nutrition and know how important it is to keep our bodies healthy. The Walkers also had amazing school spirit all throughout Summer! Don’t forget about our fantastic Carnival with rides, games, and a petting zoo. We explored through sensory activities, art, and enrichments. It was the best Summer ever!

September 2019

September RecapIn September, we learned all about Us! The Walkers discussed what we like and dislike. We learned about our height and how big our feet are. The class enjoyed talking about our families, our school, and our friends. The Toddlers had fun discussing what foods we like and also our favorite activities at home and school. We also talked about how to measure ourselves. We got string out and measured our height and created a chart to see who is taller and shorter. Then, we learned how to measure our feet. We measured with squares that we glued on paper and counted the squares. We had a blast! Our class enjoyed learning about our families. We talked about who lives in our house and created a “fingerprint family” on paper with paint. We also enjoyed singing the song The More We Get Together. This song brings us all together.  We had fun creating art with cookie cutters and play dough. We created things in school like pencils, our school, and trees. We also learned the color yellow and how to sign it with our hands! The Toddlers loved learning new friendship songs that help us get along. We love seeing our friends every day at school. We also got excited during Montessori time learning all about self help, number concepts, and sensory skills. Our students were taught how to transfer objects, carry a tray, and to explore our Fall sensory objects. The class was very involved in exploring the sensory bottles and cleaning up messes. They love to do things on their own! Our special project this month was our Kissing Hand! We made a handprint on paper and drew a heart in the middle. Our class read The Kissing Hand together and now we will always know how to think of our family at school. We just feel our parent’s kiss on our hands! Enrichments for this month were based on signing colors and learning shapes. We also enjoyed learning new friendship songs and creating music around the songs.  September was fun filled with lots of activities based around Us! We had so much fun learning about our likes and dislikes. Our class was happy about measuring our bodies and learning about school and our families. We explored these themes through sensory activities, art, and enrichments.  

October 2019

October Recap: In October, we learned all about the five senses and our feelings. The Toddlers discussed what we see, touch, taste, hear, and smell. We learned which sense goes with which body part. The class enjoyed talking about feelings and what to do when we feel certain feelings in our bodies. The Toddlers had fun pointing out each body part and singing songs about our senses. We also used our senses in different ways throughout the month. We tasted new snack host foods and used a variety of sensory materials to create art. Then, we learned how to use our senses to make our bodies comfortable. We learned that soft materials are comfortable and rough or hard materials hurt our bodies. We had a blast exploring these concepts. Our class enjoyed learning about our feelings. We talked about how words or actions can hurt our feelings or make us happy. We also enjoyed singing the song “If You’re Happy and You Know It”. This song made us happy especially when we incorporated all the hand motions and cheer at the end! The Toddlers studied faces and learned new feelings like scared, shocked, and frustrated.  We had fun creating art with finger paint and shaving cream. We found out these materials are smooth. We also learned the sign for friends and loved to use it. The Toddlers loved singing friendship songs that help us get along and make us feel good inside. We love seeing our friends every day at school.  We also got excited during Montessori time learning all about practical life, sensory concepts, and language. Our students were taught how to use a spoon properly, how to scrub and dust, and how to explore our Fall sensory objects. The class was very involved in exploring the sandpaper numbers and cleaning up messes. They love to do things on their own!  Our special project was our sponge paint ghosts! We made a ghost by sponge painting a template and gluing eyes and a mouth. Our class hung them up and they flew throughout the classroom all month long. We love decorating for Halloween and learning at the same time!  October’s enrichments were based on signing, colors, and learning shapes. We also enjoyed learning new senses songs and creating music around the songs. We love using musical instruments!

November 2019

November Recap:   In November, we learned all about the word harvest and how to have a healthy body. The Toddlers discussed what we would be eating during the Thanksgiving Harvest and why it is so important to get together as a group. We learned about a variety of fruits and vegetables that are healthy for us. Our class had fun creating art with finger painting paper pumpkins and using our handprint to create turkeys. The toddlers also got excited during Montessori time learning all about practical life, sensory concepts, and language. Our students were taught how to scoop and transfer, open and close lids, and how to explore our Fall sensory objects. The class was very involved in exploring the sandpaper numbers and cleaning up messes. They love to do things on their own!   Enrichments were a hit this month with exciting songs and movements to go along. Our class enjoyed singing songs like “I Like to Eat” and “We are Thankful”. We provided movements such as jumping and balance. The Toddlers love learning new signs to better their vocabulary. They enjoyed learning signs such as “Eat”, “Happy”, and “Thank you”. Colors that were learned were orange, yellow, and brown. We studied these colors in a variety of ways. We especially liked exploring our Fall sensory bin with the different colored leaves. We all had a lot of fun this month especially with the holiday harvest. 

December 2019

December Recap:   In December, our scholars enjoyed their exploration of the seasons and holidays. During circle time, we discussed the weather throughout the four seasons and the changing temperatures. We also had fun discussing which clothing to wear to protect ourselves from the sun, cold, wind and rain! As a classroom, we talked about what upcoming weather is expected for the month of January. Our classroom loved learning about snow, ice, and snowflakes. Each child loved our sensorial project, experimenting with snow and ice. We also pretended to have a gentle snowball fight. Our curriculum focused on the upcoming holidays. We discussed different holidays such as Christmas and Hanukkah. Our scholars were thrilled to paint, color, and craft all things related to Holidays and Seasons. We created artwork masterpieces that included stockings, snowmen, Christmas wreaths, and reindeer. We have all enjoyed our Christmas music, including Santa Shark! However, the most important songs we practiced was for the Holiday Performance for families. Our little performers did a great job and we were very proud of them. December was a great time filled with love, laughs, learning and spirit!

January 2020

January Recap:   January was a fun filled month where toddlers enjoyed their exploration of animal habitats and those animals that hibernate; sparking the question, where do animals live?  We first brought into discussion where animals live and the several species that enjoy warmer climates. Week two brought to life the different types of animal habitats and those who prefer cool weather. By the end of month, we were thrilled to find out how animals prepare for hibernation and what exactly hibernation is. Through our enrichment activities we recreated in depth forests, vast watercolor deserts and bears of all types. Books of bears, snakes and snow were read along with, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Throughout our day, toddlers enjoyed singing the songs “Five Little Monkeys”, “Brown Bear Brown Bear” and “Are You Sleeping Little Bear“. I hope everyone’s start to the new year was as joyous as our toddlers learning so many new things in their new year.

February 2020

February Recap In February, our curriculum in Toddlers was centered around Cultural Awareness and Friendship. We learned about what makes a good friend, how to make and keep friends, and how we can make our friends happy. We sang about what it means to be a friend, with songs like “The More We Get Together” and we even learned it in sign language. We also worked on counting heart shapes and making a heart shape with our hands. We practiced saying, “I love you,” and, “Happy Valentine’s Day!”

We had so much fun this month cultivating our friendships here at school. We made special Valentines for our friends and our families, and really put some love into them! We had the best time at our class Valentine’s party, distributing our Valentine’s cards and sharing our special snacks with all of our friends! We had a wonderful time showing each other what our friendships mean to us, and deepening and strengthening our friendships as well.

March 2020

March News Next month, we will be focusing on the Rainforests and South America. We will learn about the animals and plants there, what food, music and traditions are employed there, and foods and music that we eat that have South American influences. We will be reading lots of Dr. Seuss books during the month and making some special Seussical art as well. We will also be making a rainmaker to take home, completely constructed by the kids. We will also be working on spooning substances from one container to another, picture matching, and how to roll our Montessori mats before we put them away.
